1: NPS Vatsalya Scheme
Context: Launched by the Finance Minister in Union Budget 2024-25.
Purpose: Long-term investment for minor children.
Managed by: Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Key attributes:
- It is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
- Eligibility: Minor under 18 with PAN and Aadhaar.
- Minimum contribution: Rs 1,000 per year (no maximum limit).
- Contributors: Parents/guardians.
- Transition at 18: Account becomes standard NPS.
- Partial withdrawals (after 3 years): Up to 25% for education, health, or disability.
2: Greater One-Horned Rhino
Context: International Rhino Foundation’s “State of the Rhino” report
Population growth: 20% increase in the past decade, exceeding 4,000 rhinos.
Conservation success: Improved habitat management and wildlife corridors.
Habitat: Grasslands and wetlands in the Himalayas and Brahmaputra/Ganges valleys (India, Nepal, Bhutan).
Key locations in India: Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Pobitora Reserve Forest, Orang National Park, Laokhowa Reserve Forest.
