1.Mission Karmayogi

Aim: To create a future-ready, skilled, and knowledgeable civil service aligned with the vision of New India.

Key Features:

  • National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building: Launched in 2020, headed by the Prime Minister.
  • Focus on Minimum Government, Maximum Governance: Contributes to efficient and effective governance.
  • Personalized Learning: My iGOT platform offers tailored training courses based on individual officer needs.
  • Blended Learning: iGOT-Karmayogi platform provides a mix of online and offline training for accessibility.
  • Curated Programs: iGOT Karmayogi offers diverse courses for different departments and training institutions.

2.Jiyo Parsi Scheme Portal

Context:

  • The Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has launched the Jiyo Parsi Scheme portal.
  • This portal enables Parsis to apply online, track their application status, and receive financial assistance via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Jiyo Parsi Scheme:

  • Launched: 2013-14
  • Type: Central Sector Scheme
  • Objective:
    • To reverse the declining Parsi population in India by using scientific methods and structured interventions.
    • The Parsi population decreased from 69,601 (Census 2001) to 57,264 (Census 2011).

Components of the Scheme:

  1. Medical Assistance: Financial aid for Parsi couples for medical treatments following standard protocols.
  2. Health of Community: Financial support for child care and elderly assistance among the Parsi community.
  3. Advocacy: Outreach programs to raise awareness within the Parsi population.

3.Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), GAURAV

In  News

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the maiden flight test of the Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), named GAURAV.

About GAURAV

  • The test was carried out from a Su-30 MK-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) off the coast of Odisha.
  • GAURAV is a 1,000 kg class air-launched glide bomb.
  • It is designed for long-distance targeting.
  • It uses a hybrid navigation system combining Inertial Navigation System (INS) and GPS for accurate targeting.
  • It is a significant milestone in developing indigenous defence technologies.

4.DDoS Attack

What is a DDoS Attack?

  • A Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack overloads a system with traffic, preventing access.
  • A Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack is a DoS attack amplified by multiple sources.
  • How it works: Attackers overwhelm a target’s bandwidth with traffic from compromised devices (botnet) using spoofed IP addresses.
  • Impact: Disrupts services, causing significant losses. Examples include attacks on Spotify, Twitter, and French state services.

Signs and Prevention

  • Signs: Slow internet, inaccessible online services. Firewalls and security systems help verify.
  • Prevention: Anti-virus software detects unusual traffic. Robust security systems mitigate impact.

Key Points:

  • DDoS attacks are complex and increasingly common.
  • They target a wide range of systems, from websites to critical infrastructure.
  • Prevention and mitigation require robust security measures.

5.Exercise MITRA SHAKTI

Context

  • The 10th editionof India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise MITRA SHAKTI commenced, at Army Training School, Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka.

About

  • Exercise MITRA SHAKTI is an annualtraining event conducted alternatively in India and Sri Lanka. Last edition was conducted in Pune (India) in November 2023.
  • The aim of the exercise is to enhance joint military capability of both sides to undertake counter insurgency operations in a Sub Conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The exercise will focus on operations in the semi-urban environment.
  • The Joint Exercise will also enhance defence cooperation, further augmenting bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

6.St. Martin’s Island

Context:

  • Recently, St Martin’s Island in Bangladesh gained attention following the resignation of Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

About St. Martin’s Island:

  • Location and Geography:
    • Situated in the northeastern Bay of Bengal, near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
    • Located approximately 9 km from the southern tip of Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula.
    • The island is 7.3 km long, mostly flat, with an elevation of 3.6 meters above mean sea level.
    • It is Bangladesh’s only coral island, featuring reefs 10-15 km to the west-northwest and serving as a breeding ground for sea turtles.

Historical Background:

  • Originally part of the Teknaf peninsula around 5,000 years ago, the island gradually submerged into the sea.
  • About 450 years ago, the southern part of present-day St. Martin’s Island resurfaced.
  • Arab merchants were among the first settlers in the 18th century.
    • The island was initially named ‘Jazira’ (meaning ‘the island’ or ‘the peninsula’) and later renamed ‘Narikel Jinjira’ or ‘Coconut Island.’
  • In 1900, British India annexed the island during a land survey, and it became known as St Martin’s Island, named after the then Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, Martin.
